Fort Worth’s non-profit restaurant, Taste Community Restaurant, is named 2019 Best of Fort Worth for Best Atmosphere (Readers Pick).
Fort Worth Magazine’s ‘Best of Fort Worth’ competition highlights the best food and drink, nightlife and entertainment, people and culture, services, and shopping in Fort Worth. Readers vote, and Editors deliberate to determine both a ”Reader’s Pick” and an “Editor’s Pick” in every category. And this year, Fort Worth Readers chose Taste Community Restaurant for Best Atmosphere.
“We are honored that our fellow Fort Worthian’s recognize the unique atmosphere of Taste Community Restaurant,” says Jeff Williams, Taste Project Founder and Executive Director. “We invite God to meet us here every day, and I hope this recognition only allows even more people to come ‘…taste and see the Lord is good.’”
Taste Community Restaurant is the first project of the Taste Project organization designed to help feed, educate, and serve Tarrant County’s food insecure population, a total of 16.6 percent of Tarrant County’s overall community (Feeding America).
Taste’s solution is a fresh and healthy pay-what-you-can restaurant where everyone in the community, regardless of financial means, can enjoy a healthy, high quality meal. The menu has no prices. Guests are simply asked to:
Pay what you can afford;
Pay what you would typically pay; or
Pay what you would typically pay, plus a little extra to help a neighbor in need.
80% of the team is volunteers who actively serve up love every day. Volunteers greet you at the door, help you find a seat, take your order, prepare and cook your lunch, and bring your lunch to the table.
“Excellent food, service and atmosphere,” says City Councilwoman Ann Zadeh. “…but best of all we had a lovely time visiting with old friends in an unhurried comfortable place while having the opportunity to give back and service our community through the mission of this amazing place.”
“This is community… the food is ‘spot on’ and the friendly, welcoming spirit is contagious,” says guest Ron Rose. “Everybody feels invited… Here, it’s not about the ability to pay… it’s about your ability to enjoy.”
Taste Project’s Taste Community Restaurant is currently open for lunch from 11:00am – 2:00pm, Tuesdays – Sundays (closed on Mondays). AND, starting Easter Sunday, April 21st Taste Community Restaurant will be open for Brunch on weekends from 10:00am – 2:00pm. You can make a reservation online at www.tasteproject.org
